Scottish Shenanigans

Flying Skye

For the first time on our trip, we left Britain and headed for the Isle of Skye.

The Skye bridge, while not huge, did not disappoint.

First stop on Skye was finding a local highland cow and bothering him as best I could.

Our first day was spent largely at the famous fairly pools, a whole hillside of a huge number of mini water falls. Almost as many waterfalls as there were American tourists.

One wrong direction later, Rob had taken us through a bog and got us suitably stinky.

Deciding to treat ourselves we pulled into a building with parking, a candle shop, a restaurant, and a cinema. Two pizzas and two drinks later we headed in to watch the latest Mission Impossible (not bad actually).

Nice and satisfied after our meal and film we settled down to sleep in Moira. Sadly we were about to be caught out by the side effect of our first non-rainy day in the highlands so far: all the midges!

Day two on Skye and we pulled up in the capital of Portree for some classic tourist shops, chips, and an incredible cinnamon roll!

On our journey up to the north of Skye, yet again Moira proved somewhat difficult. Danni did get an excellent view of the Old Man of Storr in the background whilst I was getting filthy fixing the hand break.

Feeling accomplished after fixing the hand break, Rob led us up the mountain of Storr. An excellent plan until the fog and clouds descended and visibility dropped alongside some terrible rains. Pictured: Rob trying to avoid the massive 200 metre drop to the right

Finally warmed up after our mistaken hike in shorts, Rob's phone started pinging with notifications about the aurora being easy to see at night. So we resolved to wake up at 2 am and see it given the super clear night. The slight problem was that being so northern means that it actually never gets properly dark at night and so no northern lights this time sadly.

Waking up on our final day on Skye we headed further up the coast to the Kilt rock (named for hopefully obvious reasons) and a nice serenade by a local bagpiper. Bagpipest?

Further around the headland we stopped off in a few places including this super cool iron age fridge. Well actually, a tunnel that they kept the barrels, full of out of season goods. But like, the same?

Further following Danni's newly found water fall obsession we stopped off at what turned out to be quite an impressive waterfall. Although despite talking a big game I did chicken out of going in for a dip.

Finally off Skye after our 3 days, we headed along the various lochs towards Ben Nevis but stopped off briefly at the iconic Eileen Donnean Castle.
